Outdoor Learning

Hi, my name is Kelly Hillier, and I'm fundraising for Enka Intermediate School, Candler, North Carolina. I teach 5th grade science in a school with great students and a supportive staff. As a school we work tremendously hard to care for our students in and out of the classroom. We love caring for our students like our own children and providing the tools/resources for them to achieve success now, and in the future.

Our 5th grade teaching staff would like our students to be able to participate in the Muddy Sneakers curriculum. Our 5th graders will have an opportunity to learn side by side with multiple science educators and naturalists. Muddy Sneakers provides students with learning experiences that build confidence in understanding their environment, problem solving and working as a team.

We have teamed up with Muddy Sneakers for the 24-25 school year. The donated funds will help our students participate in 2 off-campus expeditions to our local woods area of Bent Creek.

The Muddy Sneakers staff have created a well-balanced curriculum that includes and highlights all subject areas. The lessons and activities encourage students to deepen their understanding of the science and mathematics standards by way of collecting data, asking questions and identifying changes that can be made during times of observation and action. Students might build nests to demonstrate how insulation protects wildlife from the cold or work together as a team to create a pulley system to move objects from one location to another.

The knowledgeable Muddy Sneakers staff would become an integral part of our teaching and learning team. Together we would create a learning experience fostering a love for nature, collaboration and problem solving. Click HERE to donate.
