Kindergarten students at Emma Elementary took a step back in time during a hands-on field trip to Historic Johnson Farm.
As part of their studies on how life has changed over the years, students had the opportunity to explore history in a way they could see, touch, and experience. One of the highlights of the day was getting an up-close look at a 1924 Model T, sparking curiosity about how people traveled long ago.

Throughout the visit, students rolled up their sleeves and tried their hand at old-fashioned chores, including milking a pretend cow and learning about daily life on a working farm. Inside the 1880 farmhouse, they discovered how families once lived, from the kitchen to the bedrooms, noticing just how different life was without modern conveniences.
The experience continued with a visit to a one-room schoolhouse, where students imagined what it would have been like to learn alongside children of all ages in a single classroom.

By the end of the trip, students walked away with a deeper understanding of the past and a greater appreciation for how much the world has changed. Through exploration and hands-on learning, history became more than just a lesson - it became an experience they won’t forget.
