The first graduates of this school year walked across the stage on Saturday to cheering families and proud educators.
The 20th Buncombe County Schools (BCS) Mid-Year Graduation ceremony at Harrah’s Cherokee Center Asheville celebrated 248 graduates from 11 schools, including the first graduates of Buncombe County Center for Career Innovation. The mid-year ceremony reflects BCS’ commitment to serve each student’s individual graduation goals, and it’s grown in popularity over the years, with 27 more graduates this year than last.
“Each of you have your own unique journey to get here today,” said keynote speaker Nathan Allison, principal of T.C. Roberson High School. “There have been amazing days and also challenges along the way.”
He reflected on the educational impacts of the pandemic and Hurricane Helene and praised the students for their resilience and commitment to their own education.
“No matter how bad the storms are, there are always rays of sunshine and hope,” he said. “All of us have seen your compassion, strength, and support to help this community recover. We’re not there yet, but we are one step closer. … Together we will rise, and we will be stronger than ever before.”
Congratulations to the class of 2025!
